Shawna’s ‘hip’ hop troubles

Shawna is my forever companion, I love her so much.

— Deborah —

As a retired and content individual, Deborah was thrilled 7 years ago when Shawna, the Beagle Boxer mix, came into her world. The two of them became fast companions, enjoying the time outside in their large yard and going places together. Their extra time together allowed them to bond quickly and the two have been inseparable since that time 7 years ago.

When Deborah noticed Shawna starting to limp, she became quite concerned. After carefully monitoring the limp, Deborah could tell Shawna was suffering and took her to The Pet Specialists of Monterey. Living on social security and a fixed income, Deborah was nervous about the cost of care which may be needed for Shawna. After receiving the prognosis of hip dysplasia and the cost for the surgery, Deborah began making plans to sell her items and use her entire social security check to pay for the treatment needed. When the vet mentioned Max’s Helping Paws, Deborah quickly reached out to inquire about financial assistance. Thanks to the support of a partnering organization, Peace of Mind, and the assistance from Max’s Helping Paws, Shawna was able to have the appointments and surgery needed. Afterwards, and with the love of her owner, Shawna is able to once again continue to live a life full of doggie treats, pets and chasing squirrels in her backyard.
